essential oils

"Unlike Chemical drugs, essential oils do not remain in the body. They leave no toxins behind. And essential oils make much more sense as air freshners than commercial products, as they cleanse the air by altering the structure of the molecules creating smells, rather than masking the unwanted smells. When we are looking for alternatives to toxic products in our homes and in our lives, essential oils are a convenient, practical and pleasant solution. " --from The Complete Book of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy by Valerie Ann Worwood

Indoor Air Quality

I began doing research into non-toxic products for my home because one day I noticed how much smoke a Yankee CandleŽ gave off. Not only was their black smoke on the sides of the candle jar it was also staining the white wall behind the candle. Looking closer, I could see little puffs of black smoke coughed up from the candle and travel up to the ceiling. I took apart the ceiling central air vent in the ceiling and it too was covered with black soot. Our candle maker at Aloha Bay came from Europe where for some time they have been using palm oil wax as an alternative to paraffin. He pointed out that there is a difference in the type of waxes you can use and that accounts for helping a candle burn cleaner but you could design any candle using any high quality wax to burn with out emitting 'black soot.' He explained to have a clean burning candle you need: ____?

Researching 'candle soot' I came across a phrase 'Indoor Air Pollution.' The more I learned them firmer I became resolved in ridding myself, my home and office of pollutants. First on the list were any pesticides, followed by a number of nasty household synthetic cleaning chemicals.

Many people are now getting sick from being exposed to toxic synthetic chemicals and many more are becoming sensitive to synthetics and are looking for healthier alternatives. Also a good portion of these synthetic chemicals end up back in our water, indoor and outdoor air, and in our land (from septic systems and dumps).

If your concerned about the foods you eat then you should be even more concerned about the air you breathe.

Unfortunately, our planets atmosphere has been polluted with tons of synthetic chemicals and toxins. The EPA is doing studies that indicate for some of us our indoor environments are more toxic than our outside air. Fresh air starved offices and homes where we are potentially subject to black mold, pollutants from 'outgassing' carpets, furniture, fabrics, and construction materials, candles, household cleansers, and plastics isn't doing us any good.

There are huge industries being created to deal with 'sick building syndrome' and millions spent on medical care, HEPA and electrostatic filters, ozone and negative ion machines which you can check out on various sites (CutCat, Healthy Home, etc.)

But the first line of defense that we recommend before you spend more money is to save some money and learn to rid your home of toxic synthetics. In Non-Toxic Cleaning we make some recommendations on money and time saving alternatives.

Second, before you spend money on a bunch of electronic solutions we recommend you check out how you can very inexpensively learn to Grow Fresh Air in your own home or office space.
