| There is a traditional symbolism accompanying many aromas, especially those which have been used for centuries..But above all, be still, close your eyes, breathe deeply, and open to the personal symphony of images, emotions, and memories each oil conducts for your pleasure alone." --from The World of Aromatherapy in an Introduction of Women's Oils, by Susan Earle Refining Your Personal BlendThis is the second most challenging page on this site--but well worth the effort. You effectiveness as a natural perfume blender is only limited by the amount of quality time you put into becoming familiar with the essential oils you have tried and how deeply your willing to invest in following through with the recommendations that follow. So far we have helped you identify 3 or so primary constitutional oils and asked you to rank them according to which you like the best to least or you just ordered the constitutional blend in an alcohol based mister. Take a shower or bath to remove the hint of any unnatural fragrances. Get a pad and pen. Find a quite warm fragrance neutral place to relax and lay down. If you have polarity screens or a dream crystal relax on them for about 15 or so minutes. As you lay there, start by listing scents you remember you love or aromas, which please your nose followed, by a list of perfumes you have worn and enjoyed. We want you to take your time to understand how perfumes are classified so you have a sense of the differences. If your selections fall into different categories of fragrance types, choose your absolute favorite perfume and explore that fragrance type. Imagine if you could only wear one perfume all day long what would that be. With other natural perfumes you create later you can explore several fragrance types maybe even creating a perfume from each type that you like. Type the name of your favorite perfume into our EO Database and see if Daisy can come up with a basic scent description. If not with you first choice than enter others you like until you get a match. Now in your aroma journal write down the name of individual oils that either you remembered you like or that came up from Daisy's search of your favorite perfume. Usually, you will find a similarity in your choices. We believe we are all intuitively looking to surround ourselves with those fragrances we find most personally balancing. Take this list of oils and type them and your constitutional blend in the section oil compatibility of the EO Database. Daisy will look tell you which of these oils are compatible with the oils in your constitutional blend. Write down the name(s) in your journal. Selecting A Few More Oils For Your BlendDrive to a Whole Foods and casually (your about to do a little covert scent sleuthing) walk over to the Simpliers and Oshida fixtures, two excellent retail suppliers who have very good quality oils. Or you can find a Young Living rep who lives near you that has a wide selection of oils by .......? and visit with them to help select a few more oils. Or you can travel to my house in Cobb, California and smell a couple hundred oils from all over the world but watch out for the dog. Now, take out your list Daisy created of oils that are compatible with all your constitutional oils, smell the oils, choose at least 3 that you like the best and put a dab or two on different pulse points and walk briskly as you shop some more or just go for a walk. Keep it up trying as many oils as you like until you can select at least 4 additional oils. Keep in mind you are choosing the basic scent elements you resonate with. "Comforting" is one of the best words to describe the effects the essential oils you should choose. They should have an appealing and enlivening mental, emotional, and physical effect on you. Essential oil blending does not have to be complicated, because the majority of the work is already accomplished by the nature of the oils themselves. Certain oils have an affinity for others. Later we will help you arrange your blend into heart notes that are most congenial and do not present too much of a discord. Likewise the top notes you select need to be compatible with your constitutional blend. Daisy will tell you what most perfumers agree on, but it's really up to you to smell what you want. When you have your four or so new scents repeat the same process of familiarize yourself with each individual oil. Take your time. Next, we are going to show you how to combine the oils to create your own first EO personal, one-of-a-kind all-natural fantastic perfume blend. |
